BESS Project Engineer – Battery Energy Storage Systems

Location: Wiesbaden, Germany

About the Opportunity

An established and growing renewable energy developer and operator is expanding its energy storage activities in Germany and is looking for an experienced BESS Project Engineer to join its technical team.

The company develops, builds and operates renewable energy projects internationally and is investing significantly in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) as part of its continued growth.

This position will play an important role in the technical development of standalone and co-located battery storage projects, working closely with project development, engineering, commercial teams, suppliers and external technical partners.

Your Responsibilities

BESS Design & Engineering

  • Carry out technical studies for standalone and co-located BESS projects

  • Support projects from early-stage feasibility and development through to Ready-to-Build (RTB)

  • Evaluate battery storage technologies, system configurations and electrical solutions

  • Prepare technical designs, specifications and project documentation

  • Ensure technical solutions comply with applicable regulations, quality requirements, budgets and project schedules

  • Provide technical input to support investment decisions

Project Development Support

  • Work closely with the Project Development team throughout the development lifecycle

  • Develop and adapt technical solutions according to individual project requirements

  • Provide technical input for commercial proposals and project opportunities

  • Support the preparation of technical documentation for public and private tenders

  • Ensure technical consistency throughout project development

Technical Optimisation & Market Analysis

  • Develop engineering methods, standards and KPIs for technical deliverables

  • Evaluate and optimise BESS solutions to improve technical feasibility and project economics

  • Engage with battery manufacturers, system integrators and other technology suppliers

  • Compare technical solutions and supplier proposals

  • Monitor developments within the European BESS market

  • Identify, assess and integrate new technologies and innovative storage solutions into future projects

  • Support internal knowledge sharing around battery storage technology and engineering

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a technical interface between internal departments and external project partners

  • Coordinate with suppliers, consultants and other technical stakeholders

  • Prepare technical documentation required by project partners and relevant stakeholders

  • Support multidisciplinary teams throughout project development

Your Background

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering or a comparable technical discipline

  • Approximately 5+ years of experience within renewable energy, electrical infrastructure or energy projects

  • Previous hands-on experience working with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

  • Strong understanding of electrical and energy engineering principles

  • Experience evaluating and comparing technical solutions for energy infrastructure projects

  • Good understanding of the technical development lifecycle of renewable energy or storage projects

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Confident working with Excel, PowerPoint and relevant electrical/energy design software

  • Comfortable working with suppliers, engineering partners and multidisciplinary project teams

  • Fluent German and English
