The Challenge
Scania is one of the world’s leading providers of transport solutions, operating a global network of dealers and service workshops employing over 18,400 service professionals.
In Germany, that network spans workshops across multiple regions, each critical to keeping Scania’s fleet customers on the road. For Scania’s Southern Germany operation, the workshop network is the front line of customer satisfaction.
During a period of growth and operational pressure, Scania needed to fill skilled workshop roles – mechanics, service technicians, and technical specialists – quickly and consistently across multiple locations.
The Pressure
Scania estimates it needs more than 1,000 service technicians a year globally to keep pace with demand. Germany’s tightly skilled labour market makes this challenge even more acute.
In a workshop environment, an unfilled technician role directly impacts vehicle uptime, customer SLAs, and revenue. Scania’s vehicles combine combustion, electric, hybrid, and hydrogen powertrains – generic candidates simply won’t do.
Time-to-hire is measured in days, not weeks. A recruitment partner with real sector knowledge was essential.
The Reality
Finding qualified Scania technicians and workshop mechanics in Germany is not simply a matter of posting a job. The candidate pool is small, technically specific, and largely passive – highly skilled individuals who are already employed and not actively looking to move.
Location made it harder still. With multiple workshops spread across Southern Germany’s regions, filling every open role from a single local talent pool was never realistic. Success required a recruiter with extensive knowledge of the heavy vehicle and workshop environment.
Sector expertise, genuine partnership, and the precision to place the right person every time.

As Scania continues to invest in its service infrastructure – and as demand for qualified heavy vehicle technicians remains high across Germany – SR2 is positioned as a key partner in ensuring the right talent is in place to protect uptime, customer satisfaction, and long-term performance.
